FREEDOM OF ENTRY PARADE TO THE CITY OF MORETON BAY
The 1st Signal Regiment will exercise its Freedom of Entry into the City of Moreton Bay this month. Thirty years ago, on 22 November 1995, the 1st Signal Regiment was granted Freedom of Entry in the Shire of Pine Rivers. In March 2008, the Shire of Pine Rivers amalgamated with the Caboolture Shire and City of Redcliffe to form the City of Moreton Bay. This year, the City of Moreton Bay has chosen to honour the previously granted Freedom of Entry, and has formally invited the 1st Signal Regiment to exercise its Freedom of Entry on Saturday 18 October 2025.

- Route: From Cnr Anzac and Redcliffe Avenue, along Redcliffe Avenue, along Irene Street, concluding Northern Hockey Field, Oxley Avenue Redcliffe.

What to Expect
- Over 100 personnel from 1st Signal Regiment and Australian Army Band – Brisbane
- Military Vehicles included in the parade
- Traditional “challenge” ceremony by Queensland Police Services in vicinity of the Redcliffe Jetty
- The Princess Anne Banner on parade
- Parade Reviewing Officer will be the Mayor of the City of Moreton Bay
- Invitation to community members, serving and retired members of the Royal Australian Corp of Signals, veterans of the 1st Signal Regiment and Defence Families
Historical Significance
The tradition of Freedom of Entry to a city, municipality or shire originates from a custom observed by British regiments in marching through the City of London. The Fathers of the City of London claimed that they had the right to forbid bodies of armed troops from marching through the city precincts with bayonets fixed, Colours flying and music playing. This claim was based on a ‘privilege’ that appears to have originated shortly after Charles II became King in 1660.
