FREEDOM OF ENTRY PARADE TO THE CITY OF BANYULE
Defence Force School of Signals will exercise their Freedom of Entry to the City of Banyule on 05 October 2025
This year marks a significant and proud moment for the community and the Defence Force School of Signals. The return of the Freedom of Entry Parade to Banyule after nearly a decade is a powerful symbol of trust, tradition, and the enduring bond between the military and the local community.

Event Details
- Date: Sunday, 5 October 2025
- Time: Parade begins at 9:30 AM
- Route: From Montmorency Station, along Were Street, concluding at Petrie Park
- Followed by: Morning tea
What to Expect
- Over 200 personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force
- Posted to the Defence Force School of Signals
- Traditional “challenge” ceremony by Victoria Police
- Formal recognition by the Mayor and Council
- Community celebration with music and pride
- Invitation extended to: All community members, serving and retired members of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals, and their families
Historical Significance
The Freedom of Entry tradition dates back to medieval Europe, symbolising a city’s trust in a military unit. It’s the highest honour a municipality can bestow, and it’s especially meaningful for the Defence Force School of Signals to be recognised in this way.
